Guess Which is Heavier?

Ten Pound Ben

Ben or two 5 lb bags of sugar???  If you guessed Ben, you are correct!  We have FINALLY  surpassed the 10 lb mark after 7 months of diligent tube feeding!  We are thrilled about this since he stayed around 9 1/2 pounds for weeks after his surgery.  Ben’s weight is unofficial – I actually weighed him fully clothed on the baby scale while taking Isaac to the pediatrician to follow up on his failed hearing screen.  Ben’s tube-feed follow up visit isn’t until the 20th.

Isaac didn’t do very well with the audiometry at the pediatrician’s office either.  He has some conductive hearing loss in the left ear because of a chronic serous otitis media (translation: he has fluid in his middle ear from allergies and previous ear infections).   His pediatrician started him on a 14 day course of amoxicillin in the hopes of clearing up the fluid.  He goes back in 4-5 weeks to recheck the ear and his hearing; if we are not having success he’ll need to see the ENT specialist.  Isaac likes his medicine because he got chewable tablets instead of liquid.  I think it makes him feel grown up.

Isaac was just starting a cold when he saw his doctor yesterday, but last night it blossomed into an asthma attack.  He hasn’t had a flare of his asthma in over a year.  This one isn’t too bad – we kept him home from school today and he’s only needed his inhaler occasionally.  We have not needed to break out the nebulizer machine at all so far.  He doesn’t look too sick in this picture – what do you think?

 All 3 Boys

In other news, Mark has always been told that he looks like Steve from Blues Clues and he hates it.   Today Jonny looked at him and told him, “Why are you wearing a Steve shirt?”  I have to agree with Jonny.  Mark says he doesn’t like the shirt as much anymore.  🙂

Oooh! That’s most excellent that Ben’s passed the 10lb mark!

Also, the pic of the three boys is very cute!

PLEASE NOTE that I have not “always been told” that I look like Steve Burns. Karen is the only one who’s been telling me this, and she married me anyway. Geez, that’s the last time I shop at Sears. – Mark

  3. kfb1 Says:

Other people besides me have told Mark that he looks like Steve. Mark just represses those memories. – Karen.

I would just play it safe and lose the shirt. (lol) I’m going Swiss on this one. Besides Mark…What are you doing shopping at Sears? Should’ve gone to WalMart. 🙂

Fabulous news about Ben! That truly is exciting. Will be praying for Isaac. We were actually part of an ear/flu study not too long ago studying the affects of the flu shot and its relation to or prevention of ear infections. They, of course, could not share any immediate results but my son had several ear infections during the course of the study (Lol!) ~ I made my own conclusions; check the upcoming medical journals for Shelly’s ear/flu study. (jk)

I just love seein’ the pics of your boys. It brings a smile to my face every time. What a handsome bunch.

Thanks Shelly! Isaac has had a flu shot every year, but never started having ear infections until after age 2 so I’d be interested to hear what their conclusions were. Will they ever tell you? – Karen.

  6. Shelly Says:

They said they’d let us know when the results are published. I’ll let you know when I know! 🙂

    Found this link.

Well they were SUPPOSED to let us know! 🙂
Children’s Hosp. was who we participated through. Apparently there is no marked evidence to support that the flu shot prevents ear infections. I figured that out on my own!!! (Hehe).

Yay for Ben!! I have missed alot byt the looks of it.

As for Blues Clues, its a Kevin over here in the UK. He’s a scouser (Liverpudlain). I have had to put up with the guy on my tv screen for over 8 years!!! I can see what you mean about the shirt though Karen.

Hope to catch up with all your posts soon as i get off dial up x
